With a correction made to the last paragraph that now states that the POG and SMOG gathering is a joint event that will be held on Nov. 4th at the “Little Egypt” clubgrounds near Marion, Il. D. Leimbach then made a motion to accept the minutes that was seconded by B. Smith and all were in favor of the motion. D. Wilford gave the membership report showing 8 new members, 14 renewals, 4 being for 2 years and the sale of six 1973 Six-Day DVDs. The report showed 419 active members as 8 were moved to the inactive list. A. Buehner gave the Treasurers report as of 2/28/07. Alan stated that he has mailed our year-end statements to the accountant and that he expects to hear from him by March 10th. He stated that the larger C.D. will be rolled into another 6 month C.D. when it matures on March 17th.

Ted Guthrie announced the death of Dave “Chief” Capretta on Feb. 3rd during the time that we held our meeting at the Museum. Ted spoke of how appreciative he was of Dave and Toni as they ran their motorcycle business whole-heartedly for their riders and customers. He said that their shop was a hang-out for the area racers and told of several of the fun and enjoyable times they had while producing some of the areas top dirt riders. Ted said that “Chief” held the record for number of laps ridden on the Salem Hare Scrambles track while riding a Jack-piner. Ted said that he never heard him raise his voice or get mad and that he never changed to the end.

Alan gave the Newsletter” report stating that he is hoping to have it back from the printer by the 8th. He is getting 460 copies printed that has a “Rider Profile” on Don Roth, a racing story about Mick Milakovics daughter, Ambr, a technical article by D. Wilford and a list of Vintage racing results by Toni and Gary Roach. B. Smith also stated that Karen has made some unseen changes that will help to control the message board better.

John Borer gave his E-bay report that showed the following sales: an aluminum trials tank had 5 bids for $356.00, a Penton 6 Day tank had 9 bids for $305.00, a ‘74 250/400 Penton/KTM frame had 7 bids for $138.01 and a Lectron flat slide 36 mm carb had 8 bids for $111.40. A set of 1973 ISDT maps had 17 bids for $111.49, a used Hi-point score card holder had 12 bids for $88.00, a NOS Penton/KTM MC5 side cover had 10 bids for $115.40 and another Penton Vintage dirt bike side panel had 10 bids for $208.05. John also gave some valuable tips to use when buying on E-bay.

Ed Youngblood gave a report on the Book Committee meeting held earlier in the evening. Ed talked about the photo process and Paul has spoken with a professional photographer. Ed says he is to the point that he can go to the printer for quotes and present a production schedule. Ed says he would like to have it printed for sale by the Feb., 2008 meeting but if not, then for Vintage Days. He also presented some quotes for reprinting of the John Penton book in a special POG commemorative edition. James Borer made a motion to have it printed in a hard cover edition. The motion was seconded by B. Smith and all were in favor of the motion. John Borer then made a motion to have 2000 copies printed and Ted Guthrie seconded that motion. After some discussion, all were in favor of that motion also.

We discussed our recent Feb. meeting at the museum as Paul asked for comments about any changes that might need to be made. Ed Youngblood remarked that he thought everything went along very smoothly. Ted Guthrie told of how awesome it was to be sitting right next to one of Dick Mann‘s race bikes while enjoying a piece of pizza. Next year will be the 40th anniversary of the first Penton motorcycle and the 10th anniversary of the POG. Dane will be getting in touch with Kalman Cseh, who was KTMs Export Director and also served as interpreter for several from the U.S. to see if he could attend our annual Penton Day at the AMA. It was also stated that Larry Maiers will be there to help celebrate the above. Paul again expressed his “Thanks” to Mark and Katie from the AMA and to Rick Stewart and Brett Watson for all their help in getting set up. B. Smith took many pictures that are now on the web-site. We also discussed the possibility of having a Penton gathering in Amherst during the summer of 2008 to celebrate the above mentioned anniversaries.

Under old business, A. Buehner read a letter from Dan Smith of the AMA, thanking the POG for the recent $500.00 donation that brings our total donations to the Museum to $3515.00. B. Smith made a motion to renew our yearly membership with the Blue Ribbon Coalition. Jeff Borer seconded the motion and all were in favor of the motion. Randy Kirkbride stated that he sold 134 of the 2007 calendars that netted $540.00 for the POG. He also stated that he is now accepting photos for the 2008 calendars. S. Brogan stated that he sold $700.00 worth of shirts at the Feb. meeting and has had several more orders since then. Scott says he will have to replenish his stock for Vintage Days. He also stated that he has several of the Jack-piner shirts left and B. Smith will be putting them on the web-site. John Borer suggested that we sell them for $5.00 each and that if a Hare Scrambler shirt was purchased, then a Jack-piner shirt could be delivered with it for no extra shipping fee, but if a Jack-piner shirt was purchased separately, there would be a $5.00 shipping fee.

Under new business, R. Kirkbride passed around a picture from Tom Benolkin for everyone to sign. Alan also passed around a couple pictures from Luddon Hamstead from Austrailia of his Penton motorcycles that had came with his application for membership. Alan also mentioned our spaces for Vintage Days so James Borer made a motion to go ahead and reserve the same spaces for 2007 and Ollie Martin seconded the motion and all were in favor of the motion. Rich Allison gave Ted Guthrie several rolls of 8 mm film of motorcycle racing to be put on digital video tape for editing, etc. Jack gave a brief report on the possibility of a KTM building expansion that was announced in the Feb. 25th edition of the Lorain Journal that showed a picture of Jon Eric Burleson and John Penton. Jack also stated that John is presently in Daytona and that John says the monument is nearing completion and that a stainless steel fence is being installed at the present time. Jack also stated that John has reserved a 2’x2’ square marble tile for the POG and that we need to decide what we want on it before August. Ed Youngblood suggested that something pertaining to the 40th anniversary of the Penton motorcycle be put on it.

For “Topic of Discussion”, Ted Guthrie told of how he had contacted Bob Hannah a while ago about doing an interview with he and John Penton. After some time and several phone calls he finally caught up with Bob and John at the Indianapolis Trade Shows Blue Ribbon Coalition “Breakfast of Champions”. With help from Larry Maiers Ted was able to get his interview and Ted was able to put it on the screen for all present to see. The meeting adjourned at 9:45 p.m. and the next meeting is scheduled for April 5th, 2007 at KTM, USA.
