Meeting Minutes

POG MEETING HELD AT KTM, USA IN AMHERST, OHIO
DECEMBER 4, 2008

Pres. P. Danik called the meeting to order at 7:10 p.m. and asked each person to introduce themselves. A. Born read the minutes of the Nov. 6th, 2008 meeting and after changing the word “promoted” to “sponsored” in the second paragraph that pertains to the 2009 Reunion Ride, James Borer made a motion to accept the minutes and the motion was seconded by Dave Callison and the motion carried. Pres. Danik asked all in attendance to sign two large poster photos to be sent to Ozzie Scofield and Dave Duarte. Doug Wilford gave the membership report that showed 1 new member, 7 renewals, leaving 433 active members. He also stated that the 1000th person had joined the POG as of this evening, his name being Don Knaggs from Toledo. Don stood and told of how he attended our 40/10 Celebration, not being a Penton owner, but that he now owns two. A. Buehner gave the Treasurers report. Alan stated that all bills have been paid concerning the 40/10 Celebration. He also reported that he had received an order from Whitehorse Publishing for 10 John Penton books. He also stated that the Winter Newsletter will be 24 pages and that he will be picking them up from the printer on Dec. 5th. They are printing 450 and all active members will have theirs mailed next week. B. Smith stated that there is nothing new to report concerning our web-site and he spoke briefly warning everyone about computer viruses.

John Borer gave the E-bay report showing the following sales: a rolling chassis for a ‘74 Penton 250 H.S. had 14 bids for $1136.00, a NOS torque pipe for a 125 Sachs engine had 1 bid for $250.00 and sold on “Buy it Now”, a used set of 35 mm??? forks with triple clamp had 8 bids for $174.50, a NOS 2.50 x 21 Metzeler tire had 2 bids for $128.50, a like new Preston Petty tail-light replacement lens had 3 bids for $17.00 and another of the same had 15 bids for $50.78. Also, a Hi-point aluminum gas tank had 13 bids for $92.01, another Hi-point alloy tank with some dents and dings had 4 bids for $131.50 and a contract concerning the Inter-Am MX at New Philadelphia, Oh., signed by Edison Dye and John Penton had 13 bids for $124.17, but did not meet the reserve. P. Danik then showed some paperwork that he had bought on E-bay that was from Edison Dye (Med International) that showed that John Penton was to get 3 -360s and 2-250 Huskys, dated 4/14/67. It also contained several letters that had been signed by Kathy Stashick (Towne), who was John’s Secretary for many years. Paul presented those papers to Jack Penton and the Penton family and Jack stated that they will be used in the Penton Family Museum that is being established in the Amherst Sandstone Village.

Paul stated that the “Penton Day at the AMA” will be held on Feb. 7th, 2009 and we will be celebrating the 50th anniversary of John Penton’s record breaking cross-country ride on a BMW. He also stated that on Sunday, Feb. 8th, Will Stoner will be holding a swap meet at the Ashland Co. Fairgrounds in Ashland, Oh., and that the Penton Motorcycle will be the “Featured Marque” and that Jack and John Penton and other Penton stars will be the “Guests of Honor”.

Under old business, we discussed the POG sponsoring the 2009 AHRMA Cross Country Series for a fee of $1500.00. Jack Penton asked questions about the displaying of the POG banners and Barb Weisman asked questions concerning the POG’s liability. Jack Penton made a motion that POG sponsor the 2009 Series and John Penton seconded the motion and the motion carried. S. Brogan showed a sample of a nice hooded Penton sweatshirt that he is having made and it was well received.

Under new business, Jack Penton stated that the ISDT/ISDE riders will be honored at the 2009 Indianapolis Trade Show breakfast. Jack also stated that Larry Maiers had called him with regrets that he could not attend this meeting and that he is suggesting that the POG make Stan Simpson an Honorary Member, so on behalf of Larry , Jack made a motion to make Stan Simpson an Honorary Member of POG. John Penton seconded the motion and a discussion noted that Stan is the Chairman of the Board of Directors for the AMA and was recently named the AMA.
