Meeting Minutes

AUGUST 5, 2010

ATTENDEES: Alan Buehner, Joan Borer, Diane Maiers, Barb Weisman, Dale Fisher, Ollie Martin, James Borer, Larry Maiers, Matt Weisman, Bill Smith, Al Martin, John Borer, Bud Green, Jerry Grakauskas, John Penton, Paul Danik, Jeff Borer, Joe Novak, Scott Brogan and Al Born.

Pres. Paul Danik called the meeting to order at 7:15 p.m. and asked Al Born to read the minutes of the July meeting and Bill Smith asked that an addition to the minutes be made to state that the “Mystery Man” written about at the end of the second paragraph pertained to the previous “Home Page Photo”. Ollie Martin then made a motion to accept the minutes and the motion was seconded by Bill Smith and the motion carried. James Borer gave a report on Doug Wilford who recently underwent appendectomy surgery and is now home recuperating. James reported that there was a lot of membership activity during the month, but no official report was given. Alan Buehner gave the Treasurers report as of 7/31/10. Alan stated that he is working on the Fall Newsletter and that Aug. 20th is the deadline for receiving articles. He stated that Bart Winters had recently voiced his appreciation of the Newsletters. Bill Smith spoke very briefly about the present “Home Page Photo” of Jeff and Jack Penton riding their Hansa motorcycles.

John Borer gave the E-bay report showing the following sales: a pre-owned POG MC5 T-shirt had 1 bid for $18.50, a nice pair of Hi-point MX pants (blue/white, size 38) had 13 bids for $129.50, a nice used pair of Hi-point MX pants (red/white/blue, size 36) had 2 bids for $21.50, a nice used Hi-point jersey (size large) had 1 bid for $20.00 and a NOS 72-76 carburetor air boot had 3 bids for $71.00. Also, a NOS Penton ULO tail-light had 1 bid for $75.00, a new Penton MC5, GS6 400 left side cover/number plate had 6 bids for $76.99, a new Penton MC5, GS6 400 right side cover/number plate had 11 bids for $112.50 and a NOS ‘77 Penton 125 ??? exhaust pipe had 5 bids for $256.99. Also, a NOS Penton 4” bullet headlight had 4 bids for $152.50, a Penton NOS headlight (large) for a ‘68 Penton 6-Day had 2 bids for $129.49, a NOS Penton headlight (short) had 8 bids for $103.50, and a NOS Bing carburetor had 2 bids for $76.00.

We had no Show/Tell of "whats in your garage" as Doug Wilford had been chosen to do this but he was not able to attend. The “Field Trip” report had Alan Buehner reporting that he went to the Wauseon meet. Alan attended the Friday Night flat track races that had several old board-trackers there. He stated that there was a lot of Harley parts but dirt bike items were scarce. Paul reported that during Vintage Days he attended a Thursday Night meeting at Mansfield. The meeting was attended by representatives from various Vintage Groups to discuss any issues/problems. He stated that this will become an annual event. He also told that Jake Fischer/wife will soon be celebrating their 50th anniversary at his old home place. John Penton stated that he and Jack had attended the Jack-Pine and that they had a nice display of memorable items from years gone by. They took the NSU that John used to ride that now is owned by Jeff Borer. Joe Novak was still grinning as he told about getting to ride Randy Kirkbride’s Berkshire around at Vintage Days. Chicago Jerry reported on Mountainfest, stating that there were several Pentons there and that Todd Morain rode one of his Pentons and beat approximately 45 riders in the Vintage C.C. race. Jerry won the plus-50 expert class in Vintage C.C. and Greg Troyan won the Historic Open 250 cc class in the C.C. race. Jerry said there was approx. 160 entries in the Vintage MX and approx. 130 in the Post-Vintage class. John Penton reported that John Sawazski had recently did some riding in the Colorado 600 and that his health has improved some recently.

We had a long discussion about the Vintage Days event, there being some pros/cons on the event. John Penton stated that Jack would give a report on Vintage Days at the September meeting. There was no old business and under new business, John Penton gave a report on Dane’s health problem and that he was to be discharged from the hospital the next day. Paul had brought 2 large (blown up) photos of the U.S. riders at the 6-Days event at the Isle of Man for all to sign and Al Born will be taking them to Doug and Dane. We discussed the recent death of POG member Tom Carmichael and a motion was made by Bill Smith and seconded by Scott Brogan to send his wife some John Penton books that she could donate to libraries, etc. in his memory. The motion carried and Paul will be contacting her soon. Al Martin brought the plaque that he and his father received for all their work on our trailer and he in turn “Thanked” Scott Brogan, Jim Borer, Al Born and Paul Busick for their help and Kirsten/Andy Hill at Penton’s Farm Market for furnishing the water for cleaning the trailer. The POG also gave the Martins permission to purchase some additional bungies for use in the trailer. Al Martin also stated that the cut-away KTM engine needs some refurbishing. We discussed the possibility of the POG having a display at the Cleveland International Motorcycle Show next year and the consensus was that we likely will. It was announced that the Ohio Valley BSA Owners Group would be holding their 29th annual rally on August 6, 7, and 8th, 2010. Chicago Jerry also announced that the Meadowlarks MC club would be holding a Poker Run on August 7th, beginning at 2:00 p.m. at the Quaker Steak/Lube in Vermillion and ending in down-town Amherst. The meeting adjourned at 9:10 p.m. and the next POG meeting is scheduled for Sept. 2nd, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. at KTM, USA in Amherst, Ohio
