Meeting Minutes

POG MEETING HELD AT KTM, USA IN AMHERST, OHIO
SEPTEMBER 2, 2010

ATTENDEES: Joan Borer, Barb Weisman, Jerry Grakauskas, Dale Fisher, Ollie Martin, Alan Buehner, James Borer, Matt Weisman, Randy Kirkbride, Bud Green, Al Martin,Joe Novak, Jeff Borer, Dane Leimbach, Paul Busick, Paul Danik, Doug Wilford, Ken Beck, John Borer, John Penton, Bob Wardlow, Al Born and Scott Brogan.

Pres. P. Danik called the meeting to order at 7:10 p.m. and asked Al Born to read the minutes of the Aug. 5th, 2010 meeting and after changing BSA Owners Group to BSA Owners Club in the last paragraph, Ollie Martin made a motion to accept the minutes. A second to the motion was made by A. Buehner and the motion carried. D. Wilford gave the Membership Report that covered two months. It showed 15 new members, 52 renewals, 7 being for 2 years, 1 for 3 years and 1 for 5 years. Five members were moved to the inactive list, leaving 440 active members. Doug also gave us a brief report on his recent hospital stay. A. Buehner gave the Treasurers Report as of 8/31/10. Alan also stated that 460 issues of the Fall Newsletter were printed and 438 have been distributed. Alan “Thanked” Dale Fisher for getting his “Rider Profile” ready on such a short notice. He also “Thanked” T. Guthrie for his dated story about the 2006 OVBSAOC’s Reliability Run. There was no Web-site report.

John Borer gave the E-Bay report as follows: a Penton CMF swing arm had 1 bid for .99, a used Penton gas tank sold for $290.00, a used 1975 Penton GS 250 top end had 4 bids for $264.00, a used 1975 Penton GS 250 exhaust pipe had 13 bids for $255.01 and a set of used 1975 35 mm forks had 8 bids for $153.50. Also, a new 1975 Penton silencer (for muffler) sold for $159.00, a set of used Magura levers with adjusters and 1 cover had 11 bids for $114.16, a new VDO (120 MPH) speedo had 12 bids for $104.50, a Vintage Penton Pennant had 12 bids for $62.67, a NOS Penton Wassel exhaust pipe and muffler had 10 bids for $299.09 and a 1968 (#V858) Penton Berkshire had 1 bid for $1,000.00.

Doug Wilford did the Show/Tell of “whats in your garage” that included many interesting items consisting of a small set of cowbells that he got when he rode the 1953 Jack-Pine on a Whizzer motor bike, a Cowbell Classic badge, a can of Harley Davidson 2-stroke oil (dated 1953) an entry list of riders for the 1953 Jack Pine enduro, a photo of the Penton Warehouse employees, a trophy that he won in 1991 at a Lorain wind-surfing event and a golfing trophy. Also, a certificate for completing the Sachs Service School, a piston from a Wankel powered chain saw, a note-book with info about the 1st folding shift lever and a photo of him on a Penton at a 6-Day reunion ride. Doug chose Ollie Martin to do Show/Tell at the Oct. meeting.

For Field Trips, Scott Brogan reported about being at the Moto GP in Indianapolis. Scott got to go into the Ducati pits and saw some of their exotic motorcycles. Ken Beck had been to races at the Huron Co. Fairgrounds. “Chicago” Jerry stated that Todd Morain rode one of his bikes to the Vintage class win at Portland, Mi. and Jerry won the +50 Expert class. Al Born rode the recent Meadowlarks Poker Run, winning a prize for being the most senior of over 70 riders in the event.

Under old business, we discussed sending the J. Penton books to Tom Carmichael’s widow. Paul stated that he has given Alan a bill for expenses to cover the photos/frames of the Husky motorcycles photos used in our display at Vintage Days.

Under new business, Alan Buehner stated that he had called Kelly Owens who has several photos of Pentons racing in the early ‘70s that he is getting for Karen/Bill to post on our web-site. It was reported that Cycle News will be closing their doors. Paul stated that we should soon get a contract for displaying Pentons at the Int. M.C. show in Cleveland next winter. The Mid-States International organization was discussed. Paul spoke of the article/photo of Steve Markley’s Berkshire in the Sept. issue of American Motorcyclist magazine. Paul read the quote that Steve made concerning his relationship with John Penton and his motorcycles. Bob Wardlow displayed a Penton USA Trophy Team poster that he recently bought on E-bay. Bob originally had one, but lost track of it so he was thrilled to find one. Paul Danik brought a Birthday cake for John Penton and he read the many “Happy Birthday” wishes that had been posted on the Message board. Al Born read some hi-lites from Motorcyclist magazine that described John Sawahski as the “Toughest Man” on the planet for his role in “THE BIG” cross country ride that a group had taken recently. The meeting adjourned at 8:30 p.m. with the next meeting is scheduled for Oct. 7th at 7:00 p.m. at KTM.
